The first letters of the words Shir ha Shirim — "I belong to my beloved and my beloved" (אני לדודי ודודי לי) — in Hebrew happen to form the word "Elul" (אלול). After all, it is in this month that the Jewish people are strengthened in repentance of their sins and are approaching their beloved, the Almighty. And He himself holds out His hand to him and brings him/{not her, women were not the target audience of the original text} closer to Himself.
All four (in the original) words of this phrase end with the letter י (iud). The fourfold gematria of the letter Judah is forty, which corresponds to the forty days designated for repentance — the days between the new month of Elul and Yom Kippur.
It should be noted that in Aramaic, the word Elul has the same root as the word meaning search or careful study of something. For example, the words of the Torah: "So that they may explore the land of Canaan" (Bemidbar, 13:1) are translated into Aramaic with a phrase where the word "studied" corresponds to the word vialelun. After all, the purpose of the month of Elul is that during its days we look with all our being at the deeds committed during the year, we remember all our sins in order to eradicate them from our hearts and return to the Almighty.
